  • Quinquennial Inspection Training Days 2024 – FULLY BOOKED

EASA are pleased to announce that we will be holding the following quinquennial inspection training days on:

Tuesday, 9th April 2024 at St James’ Church, Meltham Mills, Huddersfield. Yorkshire.

Tuesday, 23rd April 2024 at St Paul’s Church, Wokingham. Berkshire.

Attached are several files with the relevant documents in them. There is one file with a Preliminary Programme and Directions to the church for each day, but only one covering letter and one joint booking form for both days. Please check through these to decide which one you would like to go to. There is also an option to go to the other meeting if your first choice is full.

Those who have already expressed an interest in coming will have priority booking provided they send in their booking forms by Friday 1st March 2024, after which time it is open house on a first come first served basis. Please note that there are only 20 places on each day and I have expressions of interest for around 15 of these, so be quick in responding!

Both training days are open to EASA members and others. Therefore, if there is someone who is not an EASA member whom you think would like to book a place then please pass these details on to them.

There has been great demand for the places for the two Quinquennial Inspection days this coming April and they are now both fully booked, with waiting lists for each day.

Given that we are some way off the booking deadline, the fact that we advertised these training days more widely than normal and the great interest already shown, we have decided to keep a running list of expressions of interest for those of you who have missed out this time, or who have only just picked up on the news. Therefore, if you would like to join in next time, can you please email . We have now started a running list of those who were too late to book but still expressed an interest in a future training day, to help us estimate future demand. This time we may try and arrange a venue more towards the western side of the country.

  • EASA Conference 2024: Kings Lynn: “Is there Holiness in Beauty – does Image matter?”

As you will already be aware, due to circumstances beyond our control, EASA had to take the difficult decision to postpone our plans for a Spring Conference in Kings Lynn at the start of March this year. Not to be beaten we are now working up the final plans to run this conference from:

Sunday, 19th May to Tuesday, 21st May 2024

The conference will be held at the Best Western: Knights Hill Hotel and Spa, South Wootton, Kings Lynn. This will have a completely unique timetable from our normal conference timetables, so please bear with us in this experiment. We made our decision to run the conference, from Sunday to Tuesday, as there really was no alternative, given the small number of available and suitable hotels in the area that were not already booked, and a number of venues that were not open, or were unavailable in early March! Given this conference’s timetable it is now likely to be the main conference EASA runs for this year, but we are looking at holding a regional day conference or two between May and November.

Please keep an eye out for the next mailing about this conference. In the meantime please put these dates into your diaries. We look forward to seeing you in King’s Lynn in the merry month of May!

  • 2023 AGM and Autumn Meeting

We are returning to St Mellitus College in St Jude’s Church at 24, Collingham Road, Kensington, London. SW5 0LX for this year’s AGM and Autumn Meeting on Thursday, 2 November 2023 at 09.30 a.m..

This year the theme running through our speakers’ talks will major on the issue of the availability of grant aid for church repair and conservation work. To this end we have invited Dr David Knight from the CBC to give a view from Church House, while Diana Evans will update us on the LPOW Grant Scheme and Historic England’s view of matters. I have also asked the NCT to bring their view of the situation to our meeting and we will welcome Catherine Townsend, the NCT’s Director of Church Engagement to speak to this subject. We will conclude our discussions on this subject when Trevor Cooper, the Chair of the HRBA, will give a final talk based around a paper he wrote giving a “Straw Man’s View” of the grant situation looking back from 2033 over the previous, or in our case coming, ten years of grant issues.

As previously we shall be jointly hosting, with the National Churches Trust, the annual presentations of The King of Prussia’s Gold Medal Award and The Presidents’ Award. Prince Nicholas, our Patron, will be presenting the King of Prussia’s Gold Medal Award alongside other presenters.

Please book electronically by Wednesday, 25th October 2023.

Further information, including the full letter from the Hon. Meetings Secretary, the programme and booking form will be sent out to Members via email and are available on the Meeting and Conference Papers page within the Members’ Area.

  • Hold the date: 2023 Autumn Meeting and AGM

The AGM will be held at St Mellitus College, 24 Collingham Rd, London SW5 0LX, this year on Thursday, 2 November 2023. Full details and booking information will be emailed out shortly.
