AGM and Autumn Meeting

It was wonderful to see so many members at the 2025 AGM and Autumn Meeting, held at St Mellitus on 15th January 2026. Talks included:

  • Martyn’s Law: Speakers: James Spry, Principal Emergency Planning Adviser & Team Leader Historic England; Jordan Ford, Head of Business Engagement Unit, National Counter Terrorism Security Office and Dr David Knight, Deputy Director for Church Buildings, Cathedral and Church Buildings Department, The Church Commissioners.
  • Measuring the Immeasurable: the value of places of worship: Speaker: Adala Leeson, Head of Social and Economic Research, Historic England.
  • The Environmental Performance of Historic Buildings for Conservation: Speaker: Tobit Curteis, Director of Tobit Curteis Associates Ltd.
  • 20th Century Church Architecture and the 20th Century Society: Speaker: Catherine Croft, Director of The Twentieth Century Society.

Hon. President Peter Preston also introduced the theme for 2026, which is “Faith in Suburbia: – The Conservation of 20th Century Churches”. Keep posted for more updates about the summer conference.

Church Architecture Awards 2025

The Church Architecture Awards 2025, run in partnership with the National Churches Trust, were also announced. Congratulations to:

The King of Prussia Gold Medal:

  • Winner: St Oswald’s, Askrigg. Architects: Donald Insall Associates
  • Highly Commended: St Mary’s, Stonham Parva. Architects: Freeland Rees Roberts Architects

The Presidents’ Award:

  • Winner: St Wins, Totton. Architects: Snug Architects
  • Highly Commended: St Mary’s Handsworth. Architects: Clews Architects

The Young Architect or Surveyor of the Year

  • Winner: Liberty Watts for her work at St Mary the Virgin, Turville
